Meet the Salzarulo’s…

These SoCal adventurers are phenomenal. Don’t let their dashing young looks and newlywed vibes fool you, they’ve been married for 6 years! (Honored to be one of Victoria’s bridesmaids). Therefore they’ve got some wise tools, tips, and stories to share. John and Victoria are our last couple on the Joyward blog! It would be fun to continue these “interviews” with more married couples throughout whatever lies before us. For now they are couple #5 and a great way to wrap up the series of “Meet the….” Their marriage personality is a good mixture of adventure, hard-work, and truth. They seek adventure, and are super intentional people. Their marriage is far from being on autopilot. Fun story, at Kyle and I’s wedding we had a small mailbox set out on a table where guests could write and give us their marriage advice. One of our favorites, and one we still quote to this day, was from John. Victoria wrote something beautiful and encouraging (and we loved it), and John wrote “Dude, just don’t be an ass…” …

Meet The Ticsays

Arnel and Cecilia, this couple is like family to me (Ceci). Notice we have the same name? That’s because we do. My mom and Cecilia were college best friends and stayed close ever since. My mom named me after her strong and feisty friend Cecilia, and I like the name so it worked out. We stayed with the Ticsays while visiting Denver, CO. They welcomed us to stay in their house because the temps were real cold at the time. We also ate really well while staying with them, Cecilia is an amazing and healthy cook! So, a little bit about the couple number 4: Arnel works for the Outdoor Channel, and Cecilia is a nutritional expert, and trainer for Revelation Wellness. They have three grown up boys, and two grandchildren. With 27 years of marriage in their “tool box” we had a lot to talk about with them! As they shared stories, seasons, and lessons while standing in their kitchen, one could sense the mound of shared memoires, good and hard, that their marital …

Meet The Pickrels

Regan and Cassandra! We were so thankful for their hospitality in Gillette, Wyoming, while on the road. We stayed with them for 5 nights and when we arrived it started to snow! Our time with them reminded us why we love community so much! Friends make a difference! They did a fantastic job convincing us of why we need to be their neighbors, and stay in Gillette. Regan literally asked me “What do I need to do, to convince Kyle to stay? Do I need to take him hunting and fishing? What do I need to do?” Thanks Regan, because you did a really good job but Kyle’s not the one who needs convincing. Guilty, it’s me. But because I love them so much, I told them I’d pray about it…. Let’s talk about the Pickrels, and our time with them. To set the scene, Regan is the Senior Pastor at Gillette Christian Center and Cassandra is a Paraprofessional at an elementary school. Also, huge detail, Cassandra is pregnant and they will be having a …

Meet The Doland’s

Meet the Dolands, Stan and Molly. Where to start? They’re the type of couple that make you want to strive for more and be a better human being. You walk away feeling refreshed, affirmed, and thoroughly listened to. These people care about other people. This is what 47 years of marriage looks like; it’s beautiful and rare. Stan and Molly are recently “retired” Foursquare Missionaries, but not really retired, which is one of the many things I love about them. They are always adventuring. They are currently living overseas giving tours in Spanish and English for a few months and then returning to the Midwest where they have family. There were so many wonderful take aways from this wise couple. As we sat in my favorite coffee shop, a charming old home turned into café, we sipped tea and caught up on life. I hadn’t seen them in four years and Kyle hadn’t seen them for over ten years (we know them separately, crazy story). At the last minute I remembered that they were living …

Meet the Winters

Ben and Ashlyn Since this is our first “Meet the _____” I wanted to do a little background of why Kyle and I had this “interviewing couples” vision for Joyward. Marriage is an adventure. It is full of trial and error and constant learning. It’s a journey of give and take. What’s beautiful is that every marriage has a personality, and every marriage looks different. Kyle and I are to a T, Myers Brigg, completely opposite. That makes life…thrilling. There’s never a dull moment, haha. Kyle and I are still figuring out marriage, like most of us no matter what year of marriage you’re in, because there’s always something to learn about yourself and your spouse. So, as we’re on this quest of gathering information and learning, we thought why not learn from people we love, from people of all ages, and experiences. We created questions that stem from our own marital journey including highs and lows. Every conversation has been extremely encouraging and refreshing. At the end of the day it’s cool to know …
